Jill Hammergren

President-Elect

Hi, Mizzou Friends! I am currently serving as the President-Elect for 2018-19. I served as the first chapter president for the Mizzou Triangle Tigers alumni chapter in 2014-15. I have a Bachelor's of Journalism degree from Mizzou and every day since I set foot on our fabulous campus, I have used something that I learned when I was there. My journey from Mizzou to North Carolina includes many fun and exciting steps along the way. I've always been involved in either working in the media, for the media or helping people have effective engagements with the media and their communities. I have been a reporter, a radio and a TV news anchor and a TV news producer.  I own and operate a company called The Media Pro, which I started in 1987, while still in J-School at Mizzou.  I love all things Mizzou and I look forward to meeting you and sharing Mizzou experiences. M-I-Z!

I am a graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism with a degree in photojournaIism, but my love of photography dates back to the Sears camera and darkroom kit I received for Christmas in 1966.  I may have been the only 11-year-old in Winston-Salem, NC with a custom built darkroom. While in high school in Dekalb County, GA, I got a job as a darkroom technician so I could perfect the art of photographic printing. What I discovered, instead, was the importance of a point of view. My biggest photographic influence was Don Rutledge, a Black Star photographer for whom I processed and printed thousands of images before I was eighteen. It was his influence that lead me to pursue an education in journalism. After college, I worked as a journalist for several publications, They included The Sheby Daily Star, Home Missions Magazine, and Visions, a publication I started to promote volunteerism in North Carolina. I spent a year teaching photography at Chowan College before my career took a very different path.   In 1979, I accepted a job with the Governor's Office of Citizen Affairs in North Carolina. That path led me to a career in political consulting that continues today. In 2014, I joined the staff of Media Partners, Inc., a full service advertising agency in Raleigh, NC. I not only use photography in that capacity, I keep my camera close by and continue to document the world around me. For me, life is just an incomplete picture.

Greetings, Tiger friends! While at Mizzou, I was part of the University of Missouri Football program ('76) and Sigma Pi Fraternity. I also served as an aid to John Ashcroft (MO Attorney General) in the 1980 campaign. My claim to fame, though is that I was a bartender at  Deja Vu.  I'm originally from New London, MO and moved to Cary, NC in 1993.  I'm currently the Director of Sales; Power & Pro Tools - National Accounts - North America for Apex Tool Group and in my 33rd year of employment with them! I am married to Shelda (25 years!) and we have one son, Austin. We attend Crosspoint Church and I am also a part of the Harley Owners Group. When I am not working or riding, I coach Youth Ice Hockey for the RYHA Junior Hurricanes and have done so for the past seven years.
